Lethbridge girl shares her experience of winning CHL Jersey Design Contest

Sep 13, 2024 | 12:11 PM

Lottie Peterson, a six-year-old girl from Lethbridge, won the Canadian Hockey League’s (CHL) Annual Jersey Design Contest in 2024.

Partnering with Real Canadian Superstore, the CHL’s Annual Jersey Design Contest allows a child 16 years old or younger to create a design for a jersey for a team in either the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) or the Western Hockey League (WHL). This encourages fans to support their local teams and raise money for PC Children’s Charity.

The contest has raised $601,587 in charitable funds in total. In Lethbridge, $5,479 was raised for six local schools from the contest last year.

Lottie designed one for the Lethbridge Hurricanes and won the contest this past hockey season.

The Hurricanes wore jerseys with her design on February 3, 2024 during a shutout 6-0 win over the Calgary Hitmen. The jerseys were later auctioned off to support charity.

Lottie got a VIP game night experience.

“She got to see her creativity brought to life,” says her mother, Nicole Peterson.

Lottie Peterson says her favourite part about winning the contest was “the hockey players wearing my jersey on the ice.”

Her mother Nicole says “She’s the youngest of three kids so I feel like she kind of gets the short end of the stick a lot of the time but it was a lot of fun to have a whole game and it wasn’t just the one game it was a couple of follow up games after. For the rest of the [hockey] season, she would point out people wearing her jersey and it was so special for her to be like ‘They’re wearing my jersey’.”

The next Jersey Design Contest will likely be announced sometime in January, 2025, and you can find more details here.
