Lethbridge Police charge two teens in arson investigation

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service has charged two teenagers in an arson investigation downtown.

On September 1, 2024, police responded to a 911 call reporting a fire at a business along the 1500 block of 2 Avenue South. Firefighters extinguished the flames and the damage is estimated at more than $500,000.

Video surveillance of the incident was obtained and police issued photos of the subjects seeking assistance from the public to identify them. Police got multiple tips and the subjects were subsequently identified and arrested without incident.

Two 16-year-old males, who cannot be identified under provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act, are each charged with one count of arson to property – disregard for human life. They were released from custody and are scheduled to appear in court September 25.
