TABER, AB – A man from southern Alberta will spend the next two years behind bars following an altercation with a police officer.

On April 3, 2024, the Taber Police Service (TPS) says a constable conducted a traffic stop on the 4900 block of 51 Avenue.

When the officer demanded a mandatory screening, the man exited the vehicle, pulled out a knife, and threatened the cop with it.

The constable drew his gun, but the man would still not drop the knife.

The TPS member called for backup and retreated down an alley. The man continued to threaten the officer and advance towards them.

Once backup arrived, the man was hit with a taser and taken into custody.

Appearing in the Taber Court of Justice on September 24, 2024, a sentence was issued for Robert Lee Stetar, 62, of Coaldale.

He received a 24-month sentence for one count each of assaulting a police officer with a weapon and uttering threats.
