Pronghorns’ Safe Ride program returns for 2024 as ‘Luxie Lifts’

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The University of Lethbridge Pronghorns are bringing back their safe ride program, now with a new name.

The program, now called Luxie Lifts, returns after an absence in 2023 due to challenges in securing insurance in time to run the program.

Neil Langevin, Executive Director for Pronghorn Athletics says it was important to bring it back this year. “Our student-athletes are eager to reconnect with the community and continue the legacy of safety and support that the fundraiser established. It’s not just about getting people home safely; it’s about fostering connections within the community and investing in our student-athletes’ futures.”

Luxie Lifts will operate on select nights in November and December, offering safe rides home for those who need them. Pronghorns student-athletes are front and center in the program, which benefits them through donations collected from rides.

Multiple local businesses are also contributing to the program to support the student-athletes involved, through both sponsorships and providing food to the volunteers.

Langevin says, “It’s heartening to see how much people value this program and its impact on providing safe rides home during the holiday season while supporting Pronghorn Athletics. We invite everyone to get involved, whether by volunteering or using our service, to help us make this season safer for all.”

The Luxie Lifts call centre will be open to the public on November 29-30, December 6-7 and 13-14 from 9:30 p.m. to 2 a.m.

More information on the program can be found on the U of L Pronghorns website.
