Lethbridge Polytechnic’s START Centre wins award at ASTech Awards gala
Lethbridge Polytechnic has received an award recognizing the achievements of its Spatial Technologies Applied Research and Training (START) Centre.
The START Centre was a finalist in three different categories at the recent ASTech Awards gala, held on Friday, November 1, 2024, and it came away with an award in the Regional Innovation – Rural category.
The START Centre opened in March 2023 as a space for applying virtual and augmented reality technologies to enhance operational efficiencies and solve real-world problems. The centre also provides valuable experiential learning opportunities to polytechnic students and grads.
Dr. Andrew Dunlop, associate vice-president for the START Centre says, “The award draws attention to, led by START, exciting extended reality innovation that is happening outside large centres like Calgary and Edmonton. The technology innovation and student skills development occurring within START will play an important role in diversifying southern Alberta’s economy.”
