LETHBRIDGE, AB – The City of Lethbridge has approved the Waste Management Master Plan.

Council voted on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 to approve the plan, which was proposed by the City of Lethbridge’s Waste & Environment department.

From July 17 to September 27, 2020 the Lethbridge Waste Master Planning project received input from 1,893 residents through various methods, including an online survey, community workshops and a virtual open house.

The community engagement events provided input on what Lethbridge residents think about the current waste management system in the city for residences and commercial businesses. It also gave the residents a chance to give ideas about what the City can strive for in the plan.

Councillor Belinda Crowson said, “Environmental responsibility is one of Council’s six strategic priorities. This plan will provide the necessary framework to actively enhance and sustain the natural environment and build a more environmentally friendly future for our city.”

The City’s first waste master plan, originally called the Waste Diversion/Waste Prevention Plan, was created in 2008.
