LETHBRIDGE, AB – It was a blink-and-you-miss-it moment early Wednesday morning as a meteor dashed across the sky.

Several residents of Lethbridge noted the meteor at approximately 6:30 a.m. on November 13, 2024.

One person, Debra Pahtayken, caught it on her security camera.

Tom Anderson with the Lethbridge Astronomy Society says it was likely a Taurid meteor.

“It is known for producing bright, relatively slow-moving ‘fireballs’. The meteors are produced from debris left in the trail of comet ENKE. The debris vaporizes when it strikes our atmosphere, producing the bright flashes,” says Anderson.

According to Space.com, Taurid meteor showers are common in mid-October to mid-November, and this year’s event was set to peak on November 12.
