The City of Lethbridge is honouring a local doctor for her work to improve and advance cardiac care in the region.

Dr. Sayeh Zielke was presented with a Key to the City at the Dec. 10, 2024 council meeting.

Mayor Blaine Hyggen gave her the distinction, which is the highest honour a municipal government can bestow.

“Dr. Zielke’s accomplishments demonstrate the amazing qualities we look to recognize when awarding the Key to the City,” says Hyggen. “Not only is she extremely knowledgeable in the field of cardiac care, but she is also an advocate for the needs of her patients and fiercely committed to promoting cardiac wellness in an effort to keep our community strong and healthy.”

Dr. Zielke established Chinook Cardiology in 2013 and is the medical director of the Cardiac Rehabilitation Program, which is part of the Alberta Healthy Living Program.

She served as vice-chair and board member of Alberta Health Services from 2020-2022, which included roles as chair of the Quality and Safety Committee and vice-chair of the Human Resources Committee.

As well, Dr. Zielke has been part of the efforts to create a catheterization lab at Chinook Regional Hospital. Planning work for the $2 million project is now complete.

The last time a Key to the City was awarded in Lethbridge was on May 9, 2017, when it was given to then-Lethbridge Hurricanes captain Tyler Wong for his exceptional community service.
