Rent in Lethbridge rising faster than provincial average

Although Lethbridge remains more affordable than some other parts of Alberta for rental accommodations, the gap is narrowing.

Rentals.ca and Urbanation have released the latest National Rent Report, covering the cost to rent a home in December 2024.

They say a typical one-bedroom unit in Lethbridge rented for an average of $1,366 per month, rising by 14.5 per cent over the past year.

The cost to live in a unit with two bedrooms rose by 8.6 per cent to $1,529 per month.

The average for all communities in the province was $1,534 monthly (+two per cent) for places with one bedroom and $1,876 per month (+one per cent) for two rooms.

A total of 35 Canadian communities were analyzed for the report.

The list below shows the average rental prices in the three included cities in Alberta, with the number in brackets representing its place on the national ranking:

  • Calgary (28):
    • One bedroom: $1,606 per month, down six per cent in one year
    • Two bedrooms: $1,933 per month, down 7.2 per cent in one year
  • Lethbridge (32):
    • One bedroom: $1,366 per month, up 14.5 per cent in one year
    • Two bedrooms: $1,529 per month, up 8.6 per cent in one year
  • Edmonton (33):
    • One bedroom: $1,328 per month, up 3.3 per cent in one year
    • Two bedrooms: $1,655 per mont, up 3.3 per cent in one year

Vancouver remains the most expensive city in Canada for one. A one-bedroom apartment there rents for $2,512 per month, while a two-bedroom unit will set you back $3,430 per month.
