City of Lethbridge launches Phase 2 survey for Land Use Bylaw Renewal

Residents of Lethbridge can have their say on future developments in the city.

The City of Lethbridge has launched Phase 2 of public engagement for its Land Use Bylaw (LUB) Renewal Project.

Project Manager Genesis Molesky describes the LUB as “the DNA of Lethbridge.”

“It controls what uses and types of buildings can be built where, how tall buildings can be, parking requirements, home businesses, you name it,” says Molesky. “It greatly affects critical issues like housing affordability, economic development and sustainability. It’s a tool to standardize our decision-making processes and this project will determine what aspects of the use and development of land should be regulated and to what degree.”

Phase 2 of the LUB explores six topics:

  • Housing
  • Neighbourhood Commercial
  • Local Businesses & the Economy
  • Downtown
  • Parking
  • Notifications

Mayor Blaine Hyggen says if you own a home or a business or care about how Lethbridge will grow and evolve, residents should consider completing the online survey.

“Now is the time to give your thoughts and opinions about how you’d like to see the development of things like housing, parking and downtown play out in the future,” says Hyggen. “We want the Land Use Bylaw to be more easily understood by the community. The best way to ensure that happens is by providing your thoughts and feedback now, so it can be used to help develop the new draft bylaw at the next project phase.”

The results from the LUB Phase 1 survey are available here.
