Fort Macleod emergency department set for temporary closure

Jan 21, 2025 | 4:12 PM

The Emergency Department (ED) at the Fort Macleod Health Centre is set to temporarily close.

Alberta Health Services says the ED will shut its doors at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2025. It is set to reopen to full 24-hour service at 8:00 a.m. the next day.

The closure is due to an unexpected clinical personnel shortage and an inability to secure coverage.

Anyone requiring emergency care is asked to phone 911. EMS calls will be redirected to Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge.

Patients can also access emergency medical services at the Pincher Creek Health Centre, Cardston Health Centre, or Chinook Regional Hospital.

Nursing staff in Fort Macleod will remain on-site to look after long-term care residents.

People with non-urgent health questions can phone Health Link at 811 any time.
