Medicine Hat residents charged after police find firearms, illegal drugs

A pair of Medicine Hat residents are facing charges after police found two restricted firearms, money and illegal drugs at a North Flats residence.

The Medicine Hat Police Service searched a residence in the 900 block of Fifth Street Southeast on Sunday.

Along with the firearms and Canadian cash, officers claim to have found cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, heroin and gamma-hydroxybutyric acid.

A 43-year-old man and 42-year-old woman were both charged with possession of a substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of stolen property, unauthorized possession of a firearm, unsafe storage of a firearm and possession of a weapon obtained by commission of an offence.

The man was also charged with breaching probation. He was remanded in custody with a court appearance scheduled for Tuesday.

The female suspect was held for a bail hearing and has been remanded in custody with a court appearance scheduled for Friday.
