A pair of close friends will share a six-figure prize.

The Western Canada Lottery Corporation (WCLC) says Joanne Smyth and Yvonne Durnford had the winning ticket in the December 14 WESTERN 649 EXTRA draw.

“We buy our tickets every second week!” Durnford said. “Joanne texted me asking what time I take lunch and then I didn’t hear back… she showed up at my work with the news!”

“I was in shock,” Smyth said. “I called my spouse first to tell him we won big and then headed to Yvonne’s work to tell her!”

Durnford used her winnings to buy a new vehicle and put the rest into savings. Smyth plans to pay off some bills and plan for retirement.

“It’s overwhelming but a big relief to have more of a nest egg,” Durnford added.

“It’s really exciting—it’s a wonderful gift!” Smyth continued.
