36,000 cartons of contraband cigarettes seized in Brooks

The RCMP says it made a sizable seizure of cigarettes that were not authorized for sale in Canada.

At 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 13, 2025, officers say they received a report of a suspicious truckload of cigarettes at a business in Brooks.

The truck was intercepted by the RCMP, which allegedly contained around 36,000 cartons of contraband cigarettes.

Two people were arrested but were later released without charges.

The RCMP did not give a reason for releasing the suspects but said their investigation continues.
