Lethbridge officer named police chief in Lacombe

A long-serving member of the Lethbridge Police Service has taken on a new role.

Jason Dobirstein is the new Chief of Police for the Lacombe Police Service.

The Lacombe Police Commission says Dobirstein is a highly respected and accomplished member of law enforcement with over 35 years of experience.

“We are confident that Jason Dobirstein’s leadership will continue to enhance public safety, foster community trust, and uphold the values of respect, accountability, honesty, and integrity that define our policing service,” says the Commission.

Dobirstein graduated from Lethbridge College in 1991 and started his career in Coaldale before joining the Lethbridge Police Service in 2004.

He is currently the Inspector for the Criminal Investigation Division in Lethbridge.

Lethbridge Police says in a statement, “Over the years he has served in all areas of policing and as a member of the Executive has led all divisions. His appointment to Chief with the “other LPS” is effective June 1.”

Dobirstein grew up in the Lacombe area and his father, Fred Dobirstein, was the community’s interim police chief.

He comes into his new position on the heels of the retirement of police chief Lorne Blumhagen.
