Budget 2025 set to increase employment service support

In Budget 2025, the Government of Alberta is allocating $185 million, an increase of almost $89 million, to expanding employment supports for Albertans and helping employers find, hire and train workers.

Alberta Career and Employment Information Services (CEIS) connects residents with employment and training opportunities, offering both in-person and virtual services like career counselling, job placement, job fairs and work-specific courses.

The government says it provides more than 250 grants and contracts to employment service providers across the province, and anticipates the Budget 2025 investment to help more than 820,000 Albertans find jobs this year.

Budget 2025 also doubles the province’s investment into on-the-job training and collaboration, including more than $20 million to simulated worksites. These sites provide participants with paid, hands-on training from local employers to prepare for stable employment.

There are currently five of these worksites throughout the province, located in Calgary, Red Deer, Grande Prairie, Millet and Fort Saskatchewan. These additional investments are expected to expand these worksites to more locations.
