The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has wrapped up a six-week project that targeted street-level drug traffickers.

Officers say they arrested 26 people, laid 156 charges under the Criminal Code and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and seized nearly 12,000 doses of fentanyl and methamphetamine.

Also confiscated were nearly $17,000 in cash, one firearm, seven vehicles, and smaller quantities of narcotic pills, psilocybin, and MDMA.

Inspector Jason Walper says the operation was a direct response to the “concerning rise” in street-level drug trafficking and related criminal activities like break-ins and vehicle thefts.

“By targeting both street and mid-level dealers, the goal is to disrupt the drug trade, reduce social disorder, and increase public safety. The successful outcome of this project—evidenced by numerous arrests, charges and substantial drug and cash seizures—reflects the dedication and collaborative efforts of our officers and partner agencies,” says Walper.

The project took place between mid-April and the end of May, involving a series of short-term investigations.

It saw members of various LPS teams working alongside the Alberta Sheriffs’ SCAN Unit and ALERT’s Combined Forces Special Enforcement Section.

A similar operation in fall 2024 resulted in the seizure of more than $95,000 worth of drugs, over $22,000 in cash, six firearms and more than two dozen other weapons.

LPS says more projects are planned for 2025.
