Heavy rain forecast for southern Alberta this weekend

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the region, saying heavy precipitation and strong winds are expected this weekend.

Rain is set to begin on Friday and potentially die down by the end of Sunday.

“General precipitation amounts will range between 50 to 100 mm by Sunday afternoon, however some areas, especially along the southern Foothills could see between 100-200 mm,” reads the advisory from Environment Canada.

Cooler temperatures are expected during this period. Some of the mountainous areas along the Eastern Slopes could potentially get 10-20 cm of snow.

This will be accompanied by strong northerly winds with gusts up to 80 kilometres per hour.
