The race for Lethbridge City Council continues to expand.

Gerry Saguin has announced that he will be seeking a seat on council in the 2025 municipal election, which takes place October 8-20.

He provided the following answers to an LNN questionnaire:

Why did you want to run for Lethbridge City Council?

I’m running for Lethbridge City Council because I believe this city deserves leadership that is community-driven, service-minded and focused on results. Lethbridge is full of potential, but we’re facing real challenges when it comes to safety, affordability, and opportunity. I want to be part of the solution – to work hard for residents and build a city that is safer, stronger, and smarter. My goal is simple: serve with integrity and help create the kind of community every resident feels proud to live in.

What personal or professional experience do you have that you feel would make you a good city councillor?

I bring 30 years of experience in leadership, community service and volunteer work. After immigrating to Canada in 1991, I built a life centered on family, faith, and public service. I’ve worked as a columnist, festival organizer, and community leader – including co-founding the Filipino Fiesta Society of Lethbridge Alberta (FIESLA) and launching the Fiesta Extravaganza, the city’s largest Filipino-Canadian festival. I’m also a volunteer at St. Martha’s Parish, where I serve as a sacristan and Eucharistic minister. In 2023, I was honoured with the Servus Credit Union Community Leader Award. These roles have strengthened my ability to listen, lead, and serve in ways that build trust and deliver results.

What would be a few of your top priorities if elected?

My Platform is focused on four key priorities:

A) Supporting proactive policing and community safety – I will advocate for visible, well-equipped policing alongside partnerships that address the root causes of crime.

B) Building affordable housing and easing property tax pressure – I will work to rezone underutilized city land for attainable housing and explore tax relief for middle-income homeowners.

C) Growing jobs, investments and economic opportunity – I’ll support efforts to elevate the Lethbridge Airport (YQL), attract private investment, reduce red tape, and promote tourism and entrepreneurship

D) Representing every resident with integrity and respect – I will lead by listening, remain accessible, and work to ensure that every neighborhood and voice in Lethbridge is represented fairly.

Where can people learn more about you and your platform?

My website, unfortunately, is not available and will be activated very soon. However, you can follow my campaign on social media. I welcome questions and conversations. – I’m here to listen and ready to serve.

Is there anything else you would love to add?

This campaign isn’t about politics – it’s about people. Lethbridge is my home, and I want to give back in a meaningful way. I believe in servant leadership, in listening before acting, and in working hard for real solutions. If elected, I will work to build a safer, stronger, smarter Lethbridge for everyone – and I would be honored to earn your support.
