The Taber Police Service (TPS) has apprehended a man following a collision in the community.

At approximately 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9, TPS and Taber Emergency Services were called to the intersection of 57 Street and 57 Avenue.

Police say a BMW was travelling eastbound into the community on Highway 3 at a “high rate of speed,” and was reportedly weaving in and out of traffic.

The vehicle turned northbound onto 57 Street, allegedly still at a high rate of speed, passing the police station. Officers claim the vehicle failed to stop at an intersection, later colliding with an eastbound pickup truck with a flatbed trailer on 56 Ave.

TPS alleges that the driver fled on foot but was arrested several miles north of Taber. He was taken to hospital with undetermined injuries.

The two passengers in the BMW were transported to hospital with undetermined injuries.

A 25-year-old man from Claresholm is charged with dangerous driving, flight from police, and failing to remain at at accident, as well as charges under the Traffic Safety Act.

This matter has yet to be sworn in to court, so TPS did not release the suspect’s name.
