The rosters for a major upcoming international U-18 hockey tournament have been announced.

The Canadian Hockey League (CHL) says 60 players from its member leagues will compete at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in Brno, Czechia, including five who play for teams in southern Alberta.

Representing the Lethbridge Hurricanes is 17-year-old Filip Novák.

The forward from Czechia was the Canes’ first pick (52nd overall) in the 2025 CHL Import Draft.

Due to an injury, Novák appeared in just 14 games this past season in his home country, amassing 15 points (7g-8a) with 16 penalty minutes and a plus-5 rating.

Four members of the Medicine Hat Tigers will also compete at the tournament.

  • Lethbridge Hurricanes:
    • Filip Novák – Forward (Czechia)
  • Medicine Hat Tigers:
    • Liam Ruck – Forward (Canada)
    • Markus Ruck – Forward (Canada)
    • Noah Davidson – Forward (United States)
    • Shaeffer Gordon-Carrol – Forward (United States)

The 2025 Hlinka Gretzky Cup takes place August 11-16, 2025. The full schedule and results can be found on HlikaGretzkyCup.ca.

Team Canada’s first game got underway at 7:30 MST on Monday, taking on Finland.
