Belinda Crowson seeking re-election on Lethbridge City Council

Sep 16, 2025 | 8:00 AM

A current member of Lethbridge City Council is seeking her third term in office.

Belinda Crowson is running for re-election in the 2025 municipal election, set for October 8-20, 2025.

She provided the following answers to an LNN questionnaire:

Why did you want to run for Lethbridge City Council?

On October 20 I respectfully ask the people of Lethbridge to re-elect me as Lethbridge City Councillor.

I hear and share your concerns about high property taxes, housing needs and concerns about affordability, the need for economic development, concerns about transit and the need to know we are all safe in our community.

But how to tackle this?

People would love a magic bullet that will solve these problems immediately with little work and little negative impact. That doesn’t exist. These problems were years and, even sometimes, decades in the making and it will take long, sustained work to make the positive changes. That means good governance, strong policies, advocacy and hard work. It means working with partners locally, provincially and nationally. It means listening to you and bringing your concerns and ideas forward. It means keeping you apprised of what is happening at Council and in the city and giving you every opportunity to bring your voice to the table.

From the work to improve water and wastewater services, to the Land Use Bylaw Renewal Project, to continued work implementing the housing strategy, from work on economic strategy and economic development to a focus on providing strong municipal services and so much more, so many great things are being done. But there is still so much more to do and I would love to continue working on your behalf and also along with you to build the best city we can and to set Lethbridge up for future success and growth. I want to be part of the team that provides the best municipal services possible within our budget and by working in conjunction with the other two orders of government and with our regional partners.

What personal or professional experience do you have that you feel would make you a good city councillor?

City Councillors are to be the voice of the community and to bring forward the multiple perspectives, needs, wishes and hopes for the community. Of course, councillors must do this in a way that balances fiscal and jurisdictional realities and balances the immediate wants of today with the long-term health and well-being of the community. To do this, councillors need to know and understand the community; be available to the public to talk, learn and listen; and recognize the importance of explaining why and how things are being done.

As a local historian, I have spent decades researching and studying this community, and through my public programs and tours, I am routinely speaking with, and working with, individuals and groups across our city and region. Further, as a historian, I bring with me the ability to research, to view items from multiple perspectives, and to understand how and why we have come to the position we have. All of this helps me to understand that there are multiple ways of dealing with any issue and to work to find the best possible answer. It also helps me understand that we always have to look at the larger picture and impact.

Further, after years working as a teacher and museum educator, I know how to take complex issues and break it down to explain it so everyone can appreciate what is being done and why.

Additionally, I have been working on Lethbridge City Council for the past eight years. Through those two terms, I have demonstrated a strong work ethic with a focus solely on serving this community to the best of my ability. If re-elected, I will always work hard on behalf of Lethbridge and its residents; do my utmost to ensure that I listen to the public and share all agendas, issues and concerns so people know what is happening and so that everyone has the opportunity to make their voices heard.

I take this job seriously and realize it is a privilege to serve this community.

What would be a few of your top priorities if elected?

  • To continue to be the best possible advocate for Lethbridge and its residents, to do what I can to solve the issues facing our community, and to enhance the lives of our residents, businesses and organizations.
  • To continue the work of this present Council on incredibly important matters, such as (to name just a few) the Land Use Bylaw Renewal project; advocacy around water and wastewater improvements; the need for more housing and services; promoting our new asset management plan so that the city focuses on maintaining what we have and not building new unless it is absolutely necessary.
  • To bring new ideas forward as a service level policy that would ensure Council (through how we set budgets and policies), and on behalf of and for residents, is firmly in charge of service levels and that residents know precisely what they are getting for their taxes.
  • To bring forward issues and concerns of the public and to have the ability to respond to new concerns and a quickly changing world, because it is impossible to know precisely what we will face over the next four years.

Where can people learn more about you and your platform?

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Thank you to everyone for their support over the past eight years and during this year’s municipal election. I greatly appreciate it and, if re-elected, will continue to serve you and Lethbridge through hard work, and dedication, asking hard questions, doing my research and always working on behalf of Lethbridge and this community.
