Lethbridge Hurricanes announce $1.1M profit after successful season

The 2024-25 season was a good one for the Lethbridge Hurricanes, not only for hockey results, but also for business.

That is according to Terry Huisman, the team’s General Manager of Business Operations.

He announced at Monday’s annual general meeting that the Canes closed this past season with a $1,103,133 profit.

Huisman called it a “perfect storm” where everything seemed to line up.

Overall revenues were 31 per cent higher than what they had budgeted for. That includes a 37 per cent increase in ticket sales revenue over budget and 20 per cent higher advertising dollars.

The Hurricanes also received $666,667 in WHL expansion fees from the Penticton Vees.

The club advanced to the WHL’s Eastern Conference Final for the first time in several years this past season.

That helped, says Huisman, to boost average attendance for the season up to 3,791 fans per game.

It has also meant that season ticket renewals for the 2025-26 season climbed more than 10 per cent over last year, as of Sept. 26.

“What this is going to allow us to do is to build those reserves. We’re going to take care of some things along the way,” says Huisman. “Obviously, we always have to make sure we invest our money back into the team and we also like to partner within the community. That money is going to be well-used within the community and within the team.”

The Hurricanes will look a bit different this year as the team announced Tuesday that Logan Wormald will be the new captain.
