First-of-its-kind supportive housing officially opens in Lethbridge

A new facility in Lethbridge will house and support vulnerable residents.

The grand opening ceremony was held on Friday, Sept. 26, 2025, for the Nokoowaayi supportive housing complex, also known as “My Home.”

Robin James, Chief Administrative Officer of the Lethbridge Housing Authority, says it will provide 30 units of housing for people who will always need assistance.

“Some of our [Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder] population that’ve fallen into homelessness, even on a recovery pathway, they don’t have the capacity to be able to do those daily activities such as cooking and cleaning,” says James. “This will provide an opportunity for them to be able to live in a residence without fear of eviction.”

The facility has a commercial kitchen, laundry rooms, case management and recovery services, along with spaces for Indigenous leaders to provide culturally-appropriate care.

My Home is described by James as a first-of-its-kind housing complex in Lethbridge.

“We’ve never had a purpose-built supportive housing facility anywhere in Lethbridge, with the exception, of course, our seniors’ lodges. That would be the closest we’ve had.”

She adds, “18-64-year-olds up to this point or people with mental health and addiction issues, have traditionally fallen through the cracks. This facility will help to pick that up.”

The Lethbridge Housing Authority was given $10.2 million for planning and construction, and officials with the Alberta Government say it was actually under budget and on time.

It will cost around $1,200 per month for residents to live at My Home, which will be taken out of the money they receive from Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH).

James says the building will be fully staffed after Thanksgiving this year, and people will be able to move in at that time.
