The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) has laid more than one dozen charges against a Calgary man in connection with a pair of incidents on Friday evening.

At approximately 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, 2025, officers were called to the parking lot of the VisitLethbridge.com Arena.

They received numerous 911 calls saying that a vehicle had struck multiple pedestrians and narrowly missed several others.

The driver allegedly fled the area prior to the arrival of police.

A 77-year-old woman, a 77-year-old man, and a 46-year-old man sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to hospital in stable condition.

LPS says, shortly after, the same vehicle later struck a Subaru Outback in the area of Mayor Magrath Drive South and Scenic Drive South, and reportedly failed to stop.

Soon afterward, the driver and vehicle were reported at a convenience store on Bluefox Boulevard North. They say the driver attempted to purchase several items, but when his card declined, he allegedly threatened a staff member and left with the merchandise.

The vehicle was later found near Softball Valley on Riverbottom Road North. The driver was arrested without incident.

“Following further investigation, evidence obtained showed the subject had intended to hit the victims with his vehicle,” reads a news release from LPS. “He was not impaired at the time of the incidents and the victims are all unknown to him.”

Christopher David Hegg, 47, of Calgary, is charged with five counts of attempted murder, three counts of assault with a weapon, three counts of dangerous operation of a vehicle causing bodily harm, and one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle, uttering threats and theft under $5,000.

Following a bail hearing, Hegg was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025.
