It is still unknown when the unofficial results for the municipal election in the City of Lethbridge will be announced. The City says, due to new provincial rules requiring all ballots to be counted by hand and the higher expected number of votes, it will take significantly longer than in past civic elections.

Original Story:

Monday, October 20, is the general election day in the 2025 municipal elections.

People across Alberta will elect their next mayors, councillors, and school board trustees.

Polls will be open from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The Alberta Government has enacted a new rule for municipal elections this year that prohibits electronic vote counting. Because ballots must be counted by hand, it will take a bit longer than normal to get results.

For example, the City of Lethbridge says residents should not expect any results on Monday night due to the expected higher number of votes. It is looking at Wednesday, Oct. 22, to be the earliest that we could learn who the winners will be.

Several of the region’s smaller communities, on the other hand, say they should have an unofficial count completed by Monday night.

LNN will have ongoing coverage of the municipal election results on LethbridgeNewsNow.com, as well as on WILD 95.5 FM and All Hits B93.3 FM on Monday night.
