The University of Lethbridge (U of L) has announced its new Chair of its board of governors.

Karen Reid is the 12th appointed board chair and the first female board chair in the University’s 58-year history.

She is the Chief Financial Officer for Charlton & Hill Limited in Lethbridge, and has served on the U of L’s board of governors from 2018 to 2024.

Throughout her time on the board, she has contributed to the audit, human resources and compensation, finance, and executive committees, has been its vice-chair, and has been part of the presidential search committee.

Reid says she is honoured to help guide the university’s future.

“I look forward to working with my fellow board members, President Jayas, and the entire University community to support students, faculty and staff as we advance the University’s mission of teaching, research and community engagement,” says Reid.

She has also volunteered in leadership capacities with groups such as the Lethbridge Squash Association and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lethbridge and District, where she has chaired the annual Golf for Kids Sake fundraiser for more than two decades.

Dr. Digvir Jayas, President and Vice-Chancellor of the U of L, says he welcomes Reid’s appointment.

“Karen’s extensive financial acumen, governance expertise and deep commitment to community service will be invaluable as we continue to position the University of Lethbridge as a leader in impactful research, excellent teaching, outstanding student experience and mutually beneficial community engagement,” says Jayas.
