Protestors converge on Alberta legislature over teachers strike
Thousands of protesting teachers and their supporters converged on the Alberta legislature as the province announced it is ending the teachers strike one way or another come Monday.
The protesters — dressed in red — banged drums, jeered, chanted and carried signs mocking and criticizing Premier Danielle Smith and her government.
They also piled potatoes at the door of the legislature to mock Smith’s earlier comments urging teachers to show more flexibility by saying there is more than one way to peel a potato.
The demonstration came hours after Smith announced that if the two sides can’t reach a deal by the weekend, the government will step in Monday with back-to-work legislation.
