Southern Alberta organization receives grant to support survivors of gender-based violence

The Taber Safe Haven Women’s Shelter Society has received $50,000 through Alberta’s Community Pathways to Justice Grant, aimed at supporting survivors of gender-based violence.

The shelter says the funding will be used to support a Child and Youth position, enabling the organization to provide support and advocacy for youth affected by domestic violence.

“We’re incredibly grateful for this investment in our community and the opportunities it creates to strengthen services for young people,” the shelter said in a statement.

The grant is part of a broader initiative under the province’s 10-year strategy to end gender-based violence, which seeks to prevent harm and hold offenders accountable.

For the 2025-2026 fiscal year, 18 organizations across Alberta received funding ranging from $37,000 to $145,000.

“Our government is pleased to support organizations that are making a meaningful impact in the effort to end gender-based violence, an issue that affects individuals, families and communities across the province,” said Mickey Amery, Minister of Justice and Attorney General.

“The Community Pathways to Justice grant program will help survivors receive the critical, life-saving support they need, while ensuring that abusers are held accountable for their actions,” added Tanya Fir, Minister of Arts, Culture and Status of Women.

In addition to Taber Safe Haven, other recipients include organizations in Calgary, Edmonton, central Alberta, and northern Alberta, focusing on victim support, education, legal navigation, system coordination, and restorative justice.

Through Budget 2025, the provincial government says it is committing $188 million to organizations addressing gender-based violence and supporting survivors.
