The St. Mary River Irrigation District (SMRID) has released its end-of-season water storage figures.

According to its most recent report (Oct. 31), Waterton and St. Mary reservoirs continued to drop throughout October, while Ridge Reservoir, drawn down to the desired level before shutdown, has increased since.

Officials say headworks storage is now at 208,000 acre-feet, or 45 per cent of the Irrigation Full Supply Limit (FSL).

“District storage currently sits at 255,000 acre-feet, or 80 per cent of Irrigation FSL,” SMRID said in a statement.

Chin Reservoir reached its target of roughly 125,000 acre-feet, and 40 Mile Reservoir gained slightly after shutdown, holding about 68,000 acre-feet.

Other reservoirs in the system, including Stafford, Horsefly, Taber, Fincastle, Grassy Lake, Sauder, and Murray, are at desirable winter levels.

Combined storage across all reservoirs totals 463,500 acre-feet, or 59 per cent of FSL.

SMRID staff added that monthly snowpack updates will be provided throughout the winter months.
