LETHBRIDGE – Nearly a year after a 47-year-old Lethbridge man made his first court appearance in connection with a police standoff, the man’s lawyer says they will make some progress in the case.

Jaysun Sinclair’s matter was called briefly Monday morning, Oct. 29, with defence lawyer Art Larson saying they are hoping to resolve it. He then asked for an adjournment to Nov. 19, saying on that day they will either bring forward a resolution or set a trial date.

Sinclair faces numerous charges that include use of a firearm while committing an offence, assault with a weapon, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm, in connection with an incident on Nov. 26, 2017.

According to the Lethbridge Police Service, they responded to a home along the 1100 block of 43 Ave. North, after receiving a report of a male in possession of firearms who was threatening anyone who entered his residence, including police.

The Critical Incident Response team was brought in to secure the scene, and officers were able to make contact with the individual inside. Following a four-hour standoff, the subject was taken into custody after police deployed CS gas (better known as tear gas) to force him outside.

Police stated that a search of the home turned up 11 firearms, four prohibited magazines and rounds of ammunition.
