LETHBRIDGE – Following back to back shutouts in Saskatoon last weekend, the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns men’s hockey team could only find a single goal this weekend en route back losses in both Lethbridge and Calgary against the Dinos.

For the Pronghorns women’s team, it was a different story, as Alicia Anderson dominated the Dinos for back to back shutouts of her own to lead Lethbridge to two victories on the weekend.

In the front half of a home-and-home series, the Calgary Dinos drew first blood, as four different goal scorers propelled the Dinos to a 4-1 win over the Lethbridge Pronghorns in Canada West men’s hockey action on Friday, Oct. 26.

Russ Maxwell had the lone goal for the Pronghorns in their 4th straight loss, while goaltender Garret Hughson stopped 34 of the 38 shots he faced.

The offensive woes continued for the Lethbridge Pronghorns the following night, suffering a second straight loss to the Calgary Dinos, falling 3-0 on Saturday, Oct. 27.

The loss is the Pronghorns fourth in a row and third shutout loss during that stretch, dropping the Pronghorns record to 2-6-0 on the season.

The Dinos controlled the play, most notably in the offensive zone throughout the first frame, but they couldn’t get any pucks past Hughson who made 17 saves in the period.

Hughson would end up with 37 saves on 40 Calgary shots overall.

The Pronghorns and the rest of Canada West will have a weekend bye next week. They will return to action on Friday, Nov. 9, when they host the Manitoba Bisons.

With their biggest offensive output of the season, the Lethbridge Pronghorns women’s team put an end to their five-game losing streak with a 4-0 victory over the Calgary Dinos on Friday night at the Father David Bauer Arena.

Tricia Van Vaerenbergh and Alli Borrow each had a pair of goals on the night, while goaltender and Calgary native Alicia Anderson picked up the 20 save shutout, her second of the season.

On Saturday, Oct. 27, for the second night in a row, Alicia Anderson would shut the door to lead the Lethbridge Pronghorns to a 1-0 win in a sweep of the weekend series with the Calgary Dinos.

Anderson stopped all 52 shots she faced over the home-and-home series, with a 32 save shutout on Saturday night.

With the win, the Pronghorn improve to 3-4-0-1 on the season, while the Dinos have now been shutout for the fourth straight game and see their record drop to 0-7-0-1.

Less than five minutes into the third period, Jordan Doram put Lethbridge on the board with her first goal as a Pronghorn, which proved to be the only goal the home side would need.

Following the bye week, the Pronghorns will travel to Manitoba to face off against the Manitoba Bisons.
