Catholic pastor removed amid sexual misconduct allegations

Oct 29, 2018 | 8:56 AM

CALGARY – The Roman Catholic Diocese of Calgary has placed a pastor on administrative leave and contacted police, due to allegations of sexual misconduct.

It says the allegations involve two minors and several adults, and date to when the pastor served at St. Mark’s Parish in Calgary. LethbridgeNewsNOW is not using his name, because he has not been criminally charged.

One of his first postings was in late 2002 when he was associate pastor at St. Basil in Lethbridge. From there, he spent three years serving as pastor at St. Peter’s in Milk River and St. Isidore in Allerston.

Between 2006 and 2010 he was pastor at Christ the King in Claresholm, St. Cecilia’s in Nanton, and St. Mary’s in Champion. From there, he went to St. Mark’s, and that’s where the misconduct is alleged to have happened, between 2010 and 2016.

Until earlier this year, he was associate pastor at St. Andrew’s in Vulcan and St. Francis de Sales in High River. He has been removed from St. Bernard’s and Assumption, both in Calgary.

On Sunday, Oct. 28, the Diocese of Calgary informed parishioners at all of the locations where he served. It has also posted a statement on its website. It has contacted law enforcement and says it is following the policy of the Sexual Misconduct Committee.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 403-266-1234, and the chair of the committee, Patricia Jones, at 1-833-547-8360 or the Bishop’s Delegate, Fr. Timothy Boyle, at 403-330-5923.
