Salvation Army kicks off Christmas Kettle Campaign in Lethbridge

A non-profit organization has launched its annual holiday season fundraiser.

The Salvation Army is collecting donations for its Christmas Kettle Campaign, which aims to support local families in need throughout the coming year.

They say food insecurity and affordable housing are common threads through their work with vulnerable people, especially seniors.

Last year, The Salvation Army says its community and family services saw an increase of 3.6 per cent in services and supports for seniors.

“Some of the stories we’re hearing are heartbreaking,” says Lieutenant Zach Marshall. “Families are facing impossible choices every day – between paying rent or buying groceries, purchasing medication or putting gas in the car. At The Salvation Army, we’re here to help shoulder those burdens and offer both practical support and hope.”

The group is hoping to raise $220,000 through this year’s campaign. The money will help them to provide food, clothing, shelter, and other essential items.

Marshall adds that it will also allow them to support people in other ways.

“Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we not only provide immediate assistance but also help people rebuild their lives with dignity. Through job training, life-skills programs, and long-term supports, we’re helping people in Lethbridge find lasting hope and opportunity,” says Marshall.

Donations can be made in person at the Salvation Army branch at 1302 4 Avenue South, over the phone at 403-328-8611, or online at lethbridgesalvationarmy.ca/give

You can also donate at any of the following kettle locations: Walmart south, Walmart north, Real Canadian Superstore, Save-on-Foods west, Park Place Mall, and Costco. They are open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. until December 23.
