Highway speed limits through Coaldale changing

Dec 4, 2025 | 10:34 AM

Drivers on Highway 3 are being advised of a few changes to speed limits.

The Town of Coaldale says Volker Stevin is installing updated speed limit signs along the highway through the community.

Alberta Transportation and Economic Corridors recently completed a review of the maximum allowable driving speeds.

Just before 30 Street when travelling eastbound, the speed limit will be reduced to 70 km/hr as normal.

The section between 30 Street and 11 Street, which encompasses the majority of the town, will be 60 km/hr, as opposed to the current limit of 50.

The speed limit goes back up to 70 between 11 Street and the eastern end of Coaldale before increasing to 110 as you exit the community.

According to the Town of Coaldale, the signs are expected to be installed by Friday, but it may continue into early next week.

Drivers are asked to watch for crews in the area during construction and to follow all posted signage.
