Southern Alberta’s “hidden gem” skiing destination is celebrating its 60th anniversary this season.

Castle Mountain Resort opens Friday, December 5.

The ski resort will launch its first high-speed chairlift and access expansive new terrain.

They have acquired and refurbished the former Angel Express quad from Sunshine Village, and are launching it as the Stagecoach Express.

This comes after off-season upgrades in 2019 and 2021 significantly improved snowmaking coverage.

The expansion will add 21 runs to Castle’s existing portfolio of 94, meaning skiers and snowboarders will have 115 runs to speed down.

By improving access and increasing volume, the resort aims to generate sustained revenue that will facilitate upgrades to its older lift infrastructure in the years ahead.

Cole Fawcett, Sales and Marketing Manager at Castle Mountain Resort, says it has always been a place built by skiers, for skiers.

The addition of our first high-speed lift will not only open up incredible new terrain to all of our guests but also mark the start of a new era for the resort. It’s an investment in our future that we hope will reinforce Castle’s legacy of delivering uncrowded slopes, deep snow, big terrain and a friendly, down-to-earth atmosphere,” says Fawcett.

Guests will have immediate access to Green Chair and Buckaroo Carpet, and snowmaking efforts will facilitate the opening of the Huckleberry Chair as soon as possible.
