Skate Canada reacts to Alberta sports gender laws

Skate Canada says it will no longer host national and international-level events in Alberta because of the province’s sports gender law.

Alberta’s Fairness and Safety in Sport Act restricts transgender athletes from participating in female-only sports.

The decision applies only to national — and international — level events and does not affect Alberta athletes’ ability to participate.

There are currently no upcoming national or international events scheduled to be held in Alberta.
