Milk River emergency department temporarily closed

Dec 18, 2025 | 10:02 AM

Residents of Milk River will need to look elsewhere if they are having a medical emergency.

Alberta Health Services says the emergency department at the town’s health centre closed Thursday morning, and is set to reopen at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 19.

The temporary closure is due to an unexpected shortage of clinical staff and an inability to secure coverage.

People requiring emergency care during the closure can phone 911. EMS services are prepared to respond to emergency events and support inter-facility transfers to neighbouring sites.

They can also seek care at the Raymond Health Centre (60 km away) or Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge (87 km).

Those with non-urgent health-related questions can phone Health Link at 811 at any time.

During the closure, nursing staff will remain on-site to look after long-term care residents.
