Two new pathways open in Lethbridge

Dec 18, 2025 | 2:06 PM

Cyclists and runners now have a couple of new ways of getting around the city safely.

The City of Lethbridge says two brand new pathways have opened.

Pathway 17 runs along 43 Street South and South Parkside Drive South, tying into the green strip trail on Lakeview Drive South. It helps connect the area’s pathways into one continuous loop.

This project includes two new pedestrian crosswalks. There is one at 43 Street South & 20 Avenue South, and another at 43 Street South & Forestry Avenue South.

Each crosswalk comes with a deceleration lane for southbound drivers turning west. Motorists are reminded to slow down and take extra care when passing through these spots.

Landscaping work along the trail is planned for spring 2026.

Pathway 200 is a three‑metre wide asphalt trail running alongside 28 Street North, stretching from Giffen Road North to Cavendish Road North.

From there, it links up with the sidewalk on Blackwolf Boulevard North. That intersection now has a crosswalk, equipped with Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFB).

The RRFB is a crosswalk signal with bright flashing lights, activated by a pedestrian so they are clearly visible to motorists.

A new crosswalk is also located across the side street at Giffen Road North.

The trail makes it easy to reach the industrial area east of 28 Street North. It also provides commuters a safe option for walking or biking, and doubles as a great spot for recreational use.

Additional lighting has been added at all three major intersections (on both projects) for improved visibility.
