Lethbridge Food Bank Society benefits from Holiday Food Drive

Holiday spirit filled the Seasons Lethbridge Gardens Retirement Community recently as residents, their families, and team members donated to its annual Holiday Food Drive.

The food drive which benefits the Lethbridge Food Bank Society, is a heartfelt initiative that ran from Dec. 1-14, and brought together community members to combat food insecurity.

“We are honoured to support our local food bank through our annual food drive this holiday season,” said Sonni Worne, General Manager, Seasons Lethbridge Gardens, in a press release Monday. “The kindness and participation from our residents, their families and our team members speak volumes about the caring spirit within our community.”

In March 2025, the organization says Canada recorded nearly 2.2 million food bank visits, an all-time high. Officials say this represents a 5.2 per cent increase from the previous year and 99 per cent jump compared to March 2019. Officials say the profile of food bank users is diverse and often surprising. They say seniors aged 65 and older now account for 8.3 per cent of clients, up from 7.7 per cent in 2024.

Earlier this year, the organization points out that Seasons Retirement Communities in Alberta, British Columbia, and Ontario hosted their annual ‘One Can Make a Difference Challenge.’ All communities collected non-perishable items to fight food insecurity in their local communities.

Seasons says it has proudly partnered with Food Banks Canada since 2016, and thanks to the generous efforts of its residents, their families, and team members, the organization has contributed over $350,000 in food, funds, and thousands of canned goods.
