A trio of local lawyers is being recognized for their work.

The Alberta Government has announced 86 appointments to the King’s Counsel.

They are approved by Alberta’s Lieutenant Governor, Salma Lakhani, based on the recommendations of Justice Minister Mickey Amery.

Candidates are first screened by a committee comprising members of the Law Society of Alberta, the Canadian Bar Association, the Alberta Court of Appeal, and the Court of King’s Bench.

Amery says all of the appointees exemplify leadership, mentorship, and service to Alberta’s justice system.

“The King’s Counsel designation is a longstanding mark of excellence in our legal community. These appointees set the standard for integrity, leadership and public service—qualities that strengthen trust in Alberta’s justice system and inspire others in the profession,” says Amery.

The lawyers from Lethbridge who will receive the King’s Counsel designation are:

  • Robert Travis Bissett – Partner at Stringam LLP
  • Berga J. Moen – Associate at North & Company LLP Law Offices
  • Kevin Ronan – Counsel at Harvie denBok Pollock

King’s Counsel appointments are given to lawyers who have been called to the bar for at least 10 years, with a minimum of five years practicing in Alberta.

They must also show exceptional competence and professional qualities, and have made significant contributions to the administration of justice, their community, or the legal profession.
