A man has been charged with allegedly sexually assaulting a Lethbridge woman.

The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) says, on November 9, 2025, a 20-year-old woman attended Chinook Regional Hospital.

She had arranged for a ride home during the early morning hours on the rideshare app, UberX.

The woman was picked up at a southside business and driven to a downtown business, where a brief stop was made. She told police that she was then taken to a secluded location in the River Valley and was sexually assaulted before being driven home.

LPS says it confirmed the identity of the driver and determined that the trip to the coulees and the victim’s home had not been logged into the app.

“When officers attended the male’s home to arrest him, they learned he had left the country. His vehicle was subsequently seized and a warrant issued for his arrest,” reads a news release from LPS.

On December 27, the man returned to Canada and was detained by the Canada Border Services Agency at the Vancouver airport. He was later transported back to Alberta.

Manvir Singh, 27, of Lethbridge, is charged with sexual assault.

Following a bail hearing on Monday, January 5, Singh was released from custody with a number of conditions, including that he not have contact with the victim, he surrender his passport, and that he is prohibited from leaving Alberta.

His next court appearance is scheduled for January 9, 2026.
