The wind warning for much of the region remains in effect.

Environment Canada has issued an “orange” wind warning for the southwest corner of the province. Orange means that severe weather is “likely to cause significant damage, disruption, or health impacts.”

They say wind gusts up to 120 kilometres per hour will occur on Monday, Jan. 12, 2026, and weaken in the evening.

“Driving conditions will likely be very difficult. High-sided vehicles could be overturned by the wind. There is a risk of injury due to flying or falling debris. Be prepared to adapt your driving for changing conditions,” reads the alert from Environment Canada.

Some of the communities impacted by the orange alert include Fort Macleod, Magrath, Pincher Creek, Crowsnest Pass, and Waterton Lakes National Park.

There is also a “yellow” wind warning for the area just to the east of that, including Lethbridge, Coaldale, Taber, Milk River, Nobleford, and Claresholm.

According to the weather forecaster, these communities can expect wind gusts between 100 and 110 km/hr Monday morning and weaken by this evening.

“West of Hwy 2 between Cardston and Fort Macleod is where the strongest winds are expected,” says Environment Canada.
