UPDATE (Jan. 14 at 3:30 p.m.) Arson charges laid in Lethbridge grass fire

UPDATE (Jan. 13 at 1:40 p.m.): The Lethbridge Police Service says the fire has been contained and members of the public may resume use of the area.

Lethbridge Fire and Emergency Services (LFES) is responding to the second major fire of the day.

Just after 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 13, said its members were called to the 1600 block of Scenic Drive South.

The public is asked to avoid the area for the time being.

Crews also responded to a grass fire just before 1:00 a.m. the same day, just off Scenic Drive and 10 Ave South.

The City of Lethbridge has enacted a fire ban for all open flames in the River Valley, which is in effect until further notice.
