City of Lethbridge upgrading electricity meters

Jan 21, 2026 | 8:44 AM

Some people in Lethbridge will be getting new electricity meters in the near future.

The City of Lethbridge Electric Utility Department is upgrading residential and commercial electricity meters that are due for testing.

The meters have a 10-year lifespan, and regulations set by Measurement Canada require that a percentage of older meters be sent for testing to ensure accuracy.

If the meters pass inspection, the lifespan of the remaining expired meters will be extended for another eight years. If they fail, additional expired meters may require replacement.

Property owners who have meters that need replacing will receive a letter in the mail from the municipality.

A City of Lethbridge technician will come to the property to install a new one.

Those who would prefer to schedule an appointment for meter replacement can follow the instructions outlined in the letter.
