Bow Island emergency department temporarily closed

Residents of Bow Island will need to go elsewhere if they need emergency healthcare.

Alberta Health Services says the emergency department at the Bow Island Health Centre has temporarily closed its doors due to an unexpected shortage of clinical personnel and an inability to secure coverage.

The service is set to resume at 7:00 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 23.

At that time, it will maintain its normal hours of 7:00 a.m. on Friday to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, and from 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Patients who are having a medical emergency are asked to call 911. Patients may be transferred to other nearby facilities as needed.

People can also seek emergency care at the Taber Health Centre of Medicine Hat Regional Hospital, which are both 57 kilometres away.

Those with non-urgent, health-related questions can phone Health Link at 811 at any time.

During the closure, nursing staff will remain on-site to look after long-term care residents.
