Netflix’s ‘Can This Love Be Translated’ showcases southern Alberta

The Canadian scenes were shot in several locations in Calgary, Banff, Canmore, and Drumheller.

Director Yoo Young-eun says the locations were carefully selected to match the heightened emotions of the story.

“Canada’s special and romantic scenery – from sunsets to northern lights to lakes shimmering with sunlight – these backdrops served as another mechanism to bring out the characters’ intense emotions. I aimed to capture moments that would be remembered like a postcard for Ho-jin and Mu-hee,” says Young-eun.

The show has already reached millions of viewers around the world, which Alberta’s Tourism Minister Andrew Boitchenko says raises the province’s profile as a must-visit destination.

“Investing in these productions helps drive tourism spending, support local businesses and create jobs across Alberta, while inspiring more visitors to experience the province’s natural beauty and vibrant communities firsthand,” says Boitchenko.

Back in September, the minister embarked on a mission to South Korea, where he and representatives from Travel Alberta visited partners in Seoul and strengthened connections with media partners like Netflix Korea.

The mission was focused on growing international interest in Alberta and converting that visibility into long-term visitation growth and investment.

Travel Alberta has released a tourist’s guide to the filming locations that were showcased in Can This Love Be Translated?

January also saw a character on The Pitt mention that he had recently taken a sabbatical to southern Alberta’s Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump.
