Alberta RCMP reminds drivers to slow down on highways

Feb 10, 2026 | 5:34 PM

Alberta RCMP Traffic Services are reminding the public to slow down on highways throughout the province.

This comes after Mounties stopped a vehicle on the QEII North of Airdrie on Sunday for travelling 178 km/h. During the traffic stop, officers observed two children in the back seats who were not wearing seatbelts.

As a result, the motorist was issued three summonses and is scheduled to appear in court in March.

“Excessive speed combined with the failure to properly use seatbelts significantly increases the risk of serious injury or death. This type of driving behaviour is dangerous and unacceptable,” the RCMP stated in a media release.

“Alberta RCMP Traffic reminds motorists to obey posted speed limits, ensure all occupants are properly restrained, avoid the use of handheld devices while driving, and never operate a vehicle while impaired.”

So far this year, Alberta RCMP has responded to 19 fatal collisions resulting in 21 deaths across the province.
