Coaldale to debut ‘Affordable Ride Pass’ for Handi-Ride bus

Residents of Coaldale who face mobility challenges now have a cheaper way of getting around.

Starting on Monday, Feb. 16, 2026, the Coaldale & District Handi-Ride will begin piloting a new Affordable Ride Pass.

It bundles five round-trip tickets for travel within the town for $25. At five dollars per round trip, that is half of the normal cost of $10.

The passes are valid for six months from the date of issue.

President Terry Roosen says it is a practical step toward improving affordability and supporting their riders’ independence.

“This pass helps reduce out-of-pocket transportation costs for residents who depend on HandiRide for day-to-day mobility—whether that’s getting to appointments, running errands, or participating in community life,” says Roosen.

A limited number of passes will be distributed for free during the Town of Coaldale’s Community Fest Pancake Breakfast, which takes place from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 16, at the Coaldale Community Centre.

After the 16th, the Affordable Ride Pass will be available for purchase at the Coaldale Pharmasave until Dec. 31, 2026.
