SYLVIA LUIZA DEODITA BARBARA FURTADO, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on Monday, January 26, 2026, at Legacy Lodge in Lethbridge, Alberta, at the age of 88.

Sylvia was born on December 4, 1937, in Nairobi, Kenya, raised in Goa and Belgaum, and lived in Nairobi and Calgary.

She is lovingly remembered by her son, Alastair (Maureen) Furtado; her cherished grandchildren, Kathryn, Ryan, Kevin, and Mandy; her brother, Antonio “Steven” D’Souza; and her sisters, Theresa and Suzanne.

Sylvia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Valentin Jose Maximiano Furtado; her parents, Felix and Dominica D’Souza; and her brothers, Gabin D’Souza and Augustus D’Souza.

Throughout her working life, she began her career with Ethiopian Airlines, a position that reflected her love of travel and connection with people. She later worked in accounts with Eatons & Johnstone Walker.

Outside of her professional life, Sylvia found great joy in cooking and hosting, always welcoming others with generosity and warmth. She had a passion for gardening and took pride in creating beautiful, inviting spaces for everyone to enjoy. Travel remained a lifelong love, reflecting her curiosity and appreciation for the world around her. Sylvia and Valentin loved their time socializing with friends especially playing cards and events at CANOSCA club.

Sylvia’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
